The most characteristic point is Kuracyjny Square in Sopot and the longest wooden pier in Europe, over 0.5 km long, ending in a modern marina for yachts. In the summer, exhibitions, culinary workshops and summer cinema screenings are held here.
The pier has remained the most recognisable point in Sopot from the very beginning of the city's history, dating back to the first half of the 19th century. At that time, Dr. Jean Georg Haffner, a former doctor in the Napoleonic army, initiated the construction of a bathing facility here, where today stands a historic balneological building with a lighthouse.
